I think the man should get the benefit of the doubt. Give Him a chance to prove himself. You never know, Eddie may have done something good. Even if it was by accident.

I don’t believe the problem with Mr. Butts being hired is a personal thing against him, I think, and I may be wrong, that people want to know a bit more about his qualifications… just doesn’t seem like a lot for someone who’s been in the fire service for any length of time.

Glad the city has a new Chief.
Glad that he is from the outside.
Glad the firefighters seem to be happy.

But mostly glad that the Deputy Chief did not get the position.

Some people are more about being qualified and doing a good job than trying to look like they are qualified.

Hopefully a good chief. Lord knows we need one.

I imagine the deputy chief is glad she did not get the position also…why the hell would she or anyone else who knows what they are walking into want it? Maybe so she could “proudly” say she was YOUR chief?!? Ha!

Yea right, she was tasting it. Matter of fact she was plotting it for some time. Sneaking around behind bg’s back every chance she could.

Can’t wait for the new chief. Just hope he is not scared away with all this crap.

By the looks on the video. He must be well respected by his peers. Looks better than what we could have had.

As a veteran of the Bay Fire Dept. I will just say that all of the guys i’ve talked are both glad and excited that we are finally getting a new chief, and we are really thankful he is coming in from far away. He can figure things out in a short time. He has alot of experienced guys here that will work with him. It’s just sad that several of our experienced guys left because of what has happened with the Deputy Chief mess.

He should be in for a suprise. If you think back even to when Andrew Lizana left and the whole debacle with Hootie and Gary taking his place “temporarily” for a few years until Gavagnie took the reins and ran a bunch off. This department seems to have a history drama when it comes to finding a chief..

You are so right about the history. However this guy was hired from far far away and a committee of firefighters did the interviewing and rating. The committee was from out of town with no ties to the mayor. So they probably made a good pick. Lets just hope he was informed about what has happened so he can make educated decissions and not be sucked in by the ones closest around him.

Which ones would that be?

What Now?? on 16 July, 2008 at 9:13 pm #

I hear that the firefighters are still unhappy even with a new chief now. What is the problem with these guys? They have someone who seems to have no ties to anyone here, but still they complain. What will it take for them to get over their problems and get back to work??? All the blogs seem to be quiet, but lots of grumbling in the streets still. Word out is that the city will lose its fire rating and that some of the firemen are happy because it makes the assistant chief look bad. What does that say for the community and the people who have to pay for a higher insurance rate?
